ECMO - Extra corporeal membrane oxygenation Expert Witnesses

Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is used when an individual's heart or lungs are not functioning normally. The machine acts as artificial lungs, allowing blood to be oxygenated outside the body before being returned to the circulation. Whilst this form of intervention has been around for many years, it has been used much more frequently since the Covid-19 pandemic.
