Dr Yadavindra S. Singh

Dr Yadavindra Singh has served as a substantively appointed NHS General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist since 2006, gaining experience across a broad spectrum of settings. Early in his career he worked in acute‑care psychiatry, encompassing intensive community‑based services and inpatient units, before transitioning in 2015 to a primarily community‑mental‑health‑team role. In this capacity he manages a substantial caseload of patients aged 18 to 65, diagnosing and treating a wide array of psychiatric disorders—including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post‑traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, and other complex conditions.

In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Singh holds a keen interest in the application of the Mental Health Act. He has served as a medical member of the First‑Tier Tribunal Service and is presently appointed as a Second‑Opinion Approved Doctor with the Care Quality Commission, providing additional oversight for individuals who remain detained under the Act. This involvement reflects his commitment to ensuring high standards of legal and ethical practice within psychiatric care.

Dr Singh’s clinical interests centre on delivering holistic care through the bio‑psychosocial model. He combines careful psychopharmacological treatment with an assessment of each patient’s social environment and psychological needs, believing that integrated management yields the best outcomes.

In practice, he routinely supplements medication with evidence‑based psychological and social interventions such as cognitive‑behavioural techniques, trauma‑focused therapy, and community‑based support customising each plan to the individual’s circumstances and goals. This approach aims not only to alleviate symptoms but also to promote lasting resilience and functional recovery.

Dr Singh maintains good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for Continuous Professional Development and has a longstanding commitment to medical education. He has previously held formal teaching posts for both undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatry programmes, contributing to curriculum development and delivering lectures, seminars, and clinical skills workshops. At present, Dr Singh serves as an educational supervisor for a diverse cohort that includes resident doctors, higher trainees, medical students, and non‑medical prescribers. In this capacity he oversees clinical training, provides formative feedback, and ensures that trainees meet the required competencies for safe and effective psychiatric practice.

Dr Singh evaluates the work of fellow NHS consultant psychiatrists, offering constructive feedback to uphold clinical standards. He also serves on several management committees overseeing the national community‑mental‑health‑team transformation, contributing to service redesign, resource planning, and implementation. In these roles he blends clinical expertise with strategic oversight to improve patient care and multidisciplinary collaboration.
