Haemostasis Expert Witnesses

Haemostasis is the physiological process that controls bleeding following injury to a blood vessel. It involves coordinated interactions between the vessel wall, platelets and blood coagulation factors to form and stabilise a clot while maintaining appropriate blood flow. Disorders affecting normal blood clotting can raise complex medico-legal questions. These may relate to abnormal or excessive bleeding, coagulation disorders, platelet function, anticoagulant therapy, laboratory investigations and the management of patients undergoing surgery or invasive procedures. Experts may also consider whether appropriate investigations, monitoring and treatment were provided.
