Dr Amit Kishore

Dr Kishore is a Consultant Stroke Physician at the Salford Royal, Northern Care Alliance. He is involved in the delivery of high quality hyperacute stroke care including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy. He provides acute stroke inpatient care and runs a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) Clinic. He also provides neurocritical care advice to stroke patients, in-reach cover to the Stroke Rehabilitation Team, and has set up a regional Embolic Stroke of Unknown Source Clinic at Salford royal and transcranial Doppler services.

Dr Kishore has an interest in the diagnosis and management of acute cerebrovascular conditions such as acute ischaemic stroke, acute intracerebral haemorrhage, carotid & vertebral artery dissections, and transient ischaemic attacks (TIA). He is also interested in secondary prevention, understanding the aetiopathogenesis of stroke, and the evaluation of embolic strokes of uncertain source.

Dr Kishore has several areas of research interest in the field of stroke medicine, including atrial fibrillation (AF) and pneumonia. He has several related publications in high-indexed peer- reviewed journals in stroke and general medicine, and has presented at national and international conferences. He has participated in international stroke trials and has taken a lead on several systematic reviews and meta-analyses related to acute stroke management and secondary prevention. He has developed antibiotic guidance on stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) and is contributing to a European Consensus on diagnosis and treatment of SAP. He is leading on improving AF detection after stroke across the region through several research and quality improvement projects. He has been involved in developing local and national guidelines and his publication on AF detection has been referenced in the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Stroke Guidelines (2016). He has obtained a Manchester Academic Health Science (MAHSC) neuroscience fellowship and is presently working towards a Phd in stroke medicine.

Dr Kishore is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Manchester. He supervised undergraduate students and postgraduate doctors in clinical and academic work. He has also supervised MSc and PhD students. He set up the regional stroke study at the Salford Royal and he is frequently invited to lecture both nationally and internationally on stroke medicine. He is presently the Training Programme Director in Stroke medicine for the North West.
