Mr Wasilwa Baraza

Mr Baraza has been a Consultant General, Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Surgeon at the Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, since 2015. He is General Surgery Lead for Enhanced Recovery and a member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), and The Pelvic Floor Society. In addition, he is the MFT Group Clinical Lead for Physician Associates and takes an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Mr Baraza has held the following positions: Honorary Secretary Elect, Royal Society of Medicine, Coloproctology Section (2021-present) Advisor to the GMC on Professional Standards for Medical Associate Professionals (2020-2021) National Guideline/NICE Committee Member, Royal College of Physicians, London (2018- 2020) MDC Clinician, Greater Manchester Cancer, Vanguard Innovation (2017) Convenor and Chair, Manchester Regional Association of Surgeons Meeting, Wythenshawe Hospital (2017) Surgical Representative to the Mortality Review Group, Wythenshawe Hospital (2018)

Mr Baraza has a clinical interest in bowel cancer, pelvic floor pathology, proctology, minimally invasive surgery, early rectal cancer and enhanced recovery after surgery.

Mr Baraza has research interest in pelvic floor surgery, surgical gerontology, and surgical endoscopy.

Mr Baraza is currently the Course Director for the Health Education England NW Cadaveric Simulation Course. He is also a GMC accredited trainer.

Mr Baraza has been widely published within his field, with over 16 selected publications, 17 published abstracts, book contributions, journal reviews and book chapters. He has been invited to speak at international conferences and provided a range of lectures.
