Critical limb ischaemia is when an artery in the lower limb becomes severely blocked, leading to markedly reduced blood flow. Critical limb ischaemia presents as severe burning pain at rest, pale, shiny, smooth skin (with loss of hair), tissue necrosis, non-healing ulcers, muscle wasting, and gangrene. Critical limb ischaemia is often difficult to manage and may result in part/complete loss of the limb.
