Angioplasty Expert Witnesses

Interventional radiologists perform angioplasties to treat acute coronary syndromes. During the procedure, a deflated balloon is fed through a blood vessel in the arm and, upon reaching a narrowed or blocked coronary artery, it is inflated; consequently, blood flow to the cardiac muscle is restored. Angioplasty is commonly used in combination with a stent; as the balloon inflates, a metal stent expands within the lumen of the blood vessel and remains in situ to support the walls of the vessel.
