Dr Hussain Contractor

Dr Contractor is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust providing tertiary and quaternary cardiac services for the North West of England. He maintains a strong interest in cardiac pharmacology and sits on several regional guideline committees.

He has a specialist interest in coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes and is particularly involved in complex coronary intervention and chronic total occlusion angioplasty. However, the scope of his work also encompasses the full range of cardiac problems including complex valve disease, cardiac rhythm management, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, heart failure and cardiomyopathies.

Dr Contractor is actively involved in cardiac research and is Lead for Interventional Research at the Wythenshawe Hospital. Having attained a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2012, he has maintained a strong interest in ischemia-reperfusion injury, cardiometabolic indices and vascular biology.

Dr Contractor is a clinical and educational supervisor for cardiac trainees and also a Lead for the University of Manchester Medical Student Teaching Programme. He regularly delivers lectures and educational sessions for a wide range of health professionals on the management of cardiac disease.

He is widely published in international peer-reviewed journals and maintains a number of collaborations with university research teams as well as being the principal investigator on a number of novel device and interventional studies.
